Water Quality Buoy

In the channel of the river, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources maintains a real-time water quality monitoring buoy through its Eyes on the Bay program. Every 15 minutes, the buoy collects data on water temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, clarity, and chlorophyll (concentration of algae). This data is used to inform management decisions, monitor trends over time, and inform the public of real-time water quality conditions.
